Trying to read people and other amazing feats

Lunch was quite nice. Kind of impromptu, so I had to wear the big winter jacket and clunky boots I had worn to the coffee shop where I had been working on my paper. Ah well. It's getting to be winter. One has to allow for less-than-attractive outerwear.

Anyway, conversation was good, and I think we are getting along well. I mean, really, we have hung out three times since Thursday. I like him OK, but I am going into this whole thing as reservedly as I can. (Let's face it, having strong opinions of people hasn't served me well in recent history. I am trying to hold a bit more back as of late.)

After about an hour and a half, I explained that I should get going so that I could continue to work on my paper. We wrapped up our conversation and went to the counter to pay for lunch. He picked up the whole tab, which was very nice of him, though I made sure to say he didn't have to and thanked him. We walked outside and got to my car.

Before we said goodbyes, the thought crossed my mind that I was not sure how to appropriately say goodbye at this point. I mean, do we wave at each other? High five? Hug? What? Last night we had parted with a quasi-hug-thing (can't really describe it...blame the beer). Not quite a hug, but not a handshake. I realized that I didn't know what to do.

And then we said our goodbyes with no physical contact at all. Just a verbal goodbye. And this seemed weird to me because then I really wasn't sure what our hanging out is. Buying drinks last night and lunch today seems date-ish or interested-ish, as does wanting to hang out a lot. No hug or anything at parting seems pal-ish.

Leaving Ginny confused-ish. Actually, just confused.

Which was only added to when I got back to The Anchorage and logged onto MSN about 30 minutes later. He had messaged me while I was offline saying that he enjoyed chatting with me and thanked me for the lunch company. I later sent him a message saying that I had fun as well and thanking him again for lunch.

So, I think things are going well, but I am not really sure what those things are.

Any insight from the men-folk?
