Parrot Guy and I went out for wings last night and it was not very good. Not so bad it's going to be represented graphically, but definitely not good. And since both this date and last Saturday's epic fail date took place when there was a weather advisory out, I don't think I'll be going out with new people in bad weather again. Bad karma or something.
Anyways, Parrot Guy suggested beer and wings, and when I asked where he'd like to go, he said Fog City. In my head, there was a refrain of "seriously?" but I said yes because I was hoping he knew something I didn't. Not so much. Quality of food aside, though, the date was still not nice. First, he was late. Not super late - 9 minutes - but I really think you should be on time when you're meeting someone from the Internet. If he'd been one more minute late, I would have bailed because (a) I was not that invested in the date to begin with and (b) if I can be on time, anyone can be on time. But he showed up and in we went. Woo. We were out for about 80 minutes, and, although parts of the conversation were nice, he was just kind of smarmy and douche-y for most of it.
Choice bits:
- He almost took a teaching position down the road from my parents' house but didn't so that he could come back to Newfoundland, a province he seems to loathe. (This is one of the nice bits.)
- He complained about having to drive in from St. Philips twice in one day. (I assume that our date was the second time, which was kind of crappy since he was the one who suggested the day, time and place.)
- He never really acknowledged that our waitress was a person. (And she was a very sweet waitress.)
The best moment by far was when the waitress asked if we'd like separate bills, or if we were together. He said one bill, so I assumed he was going to pay. I was all set to pay my half but thought it was very nice until he said, "Well, I'll put in $20 and you can pay the rest, since I had a beer and you didn't." He just assumed we were going Dutch, which I'd planned on, but still, he couldn't have been much classier about it.
He said that he'd like to do it again some time but I said I was leaving on Sunday and would write him when I'm back in January. This is quite possibly a lie.

I like how you clarify that you won't go out with NEW people in bad weather rather than not going out with ANY people in bad weather ... otherwise, being in Newfoundland and all, you might not get any till July.
I thought it was only reasonable. LOL. (Yes, I just did that.)
where was the parrot in all this? That's the real question
