It occurs to me...

...that this online thing is like a compacted version of any insecurities one might have about dating. All the judging with, well, less of the social accountability.

This idea strikes me as I wait "patiently" for people to reply to messages I send them. POF tells you when someone has read your message...and when they have deleted it. Now, even though I know that someone not replying to me is not a personal judgement of my worth as a human being, there is still something oddly nerve-wracking about it. I mean, I am not replying to every message I get, and I know I don't mean it to be disrespectful. But, still...

I also like how one can get strangely attached to people they don't know. Kind of like you work up a backstory in your head, which will be (likely) very dissimilar to who this person actually is if you ever meet them in real life. I think this tendency is partially why my plan is to attempt a reasonably quick movement from decent online conversation to meeting in an incredibly public place.

I say this now, but I also know I am a chicken with things like this.

Cluck! Cluck!
